How To Make White Bread By Hand - A Baking Demonstration by Kookie
WHITE BREAD RECIPE (3 loaves)
Whisk together in large bowl:
1 tsp white sugar
2 tbsp dry active yeast
1 cup warm water
Activate for 10 minutes. Add:
2 cups warm water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup oil or melted butter
9 cups all-purpose or bread flour (hard wheat flour)
1 tbsp salt
Mix together loosely with hands. Knead on floured surface for 10 minutes. Oil bowl and dough, cover with warm damp towel and proof for 1 hour or until doubled in size. Punch down dough, portion into 3 equal size loaves, shape on floured surface and set into parchment lined or greased 9" loaf pans. Proof for another hour or until doubled in size. Pre-heat oven to 400*F. Brush loaves with melted butter. Bake for 30 minutes or until done - internal temperature should read 195*F. While hot, brush with more melted butter. Cool in pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely before cutting. You may divide recipe by three to make one loaf, etc.
