Tesla Giga Shanghai Ready for Big Expansion and New Vehicles
Our friend Wuwa has shared this nice drone walkaround of Tesla's Giga Shanghai displaying how much work has been done since the last time he flew his drone, which was suspended due to the rainy season in China.
Tesmanian reports.
On July 28th Beijing time, Tesla China posted a hiring spree through the official Wechat account for designers at its China studio. At the same time, the company also plans to hire an additional 1000 workers for the Gigafactory Shanghai. For the 1000 workers, 600 are responsible for stamping, painting, assembly & bodywork. Around 150 workers will handle quality control and 200 for logistics duty.
The staff in Tesla's "China Design Studio" will be responsible for the "design development of Tesla vehicles". Designers are requested to design sketches and guide them to concept modeling, the job posts showed. Tesla will also have a "small team" of designers focusing on designs of color and texture of the car's exterior and interior surfaces, posts showed. The posts did not detail how many designers Tesla plans to hire now.
“Something that would be super cool ... so we’re going to do it ... is to try to create a China design and engineering center to actually design an original car in China for worldwide consumption. I think this will be very exciting." Tesla CEO Elon Musk said during that China-Made Model Y Program Opening Ceremony back in Jan 2020.
