Life coach Tony Robbins clearly does not understand the #MeToo movement.
The self-help author and life coach says he’s against “victimhood” and believes people sue it to make themselves “significant.”
In a March 15 seminar in San Jose he stated, “If you use the #MeToo movement to try and get significance and certainty by attacking and destroying someone else you haven’t grown and ounce.”
Robbins was then confronted by an audience member named Nanine McCool who called him out. Robbins instructed the survivor of sexual abuse to put out her fist and started walking against her while asking why she was pushing back, asking, “You’re telling me the more I push, the more I am going to be safe?”
But McCool didn’t back down stating, “You are a leader and an influence man and you are doing a disservice, in my opinion to the #MeToo movement.”
The #MeToo movement gained international attention after more than 50 women accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct. People then began to use the hashtag to share their own stories of sexual harassment and abuse. Critics of the movement argue that amount sexual abusers have been punished makes them wonder how to operate around women in the workplace. This, however, is a hollow argument, which furthers enforces the amount of men who refuse to communicate with women about bounders or denounce their friends/colleagues’ poor conduct.
