Kia Motors isn’t giving up on the midsize sedan segment despite significant sales declines as U.S. consumers move away from passenger cars to crossovers.
The South Korean automaker Tuesday unveiled a new midsize sedan called the K5, which will replace the outgoing Optima when it arrives in U.S. dealerships this summer.
“Nearly a decade after the 2011 Kia Optima paved the way for one of the auto industry’s most significant growth and achievement stories, Kia Motors America is resetting expectations once again with the reveal of the all-new K5 mid-size sedan,” the company said in a release.
The 2021 K5 features more standard and available safety features, additional technology, and a new design with elements similar to Kia’s Stinger
Powerful and bold appearance incorporates Stinger design DNA while expanding Kia’s future design language
All-new N3 platform is stronger while being longer, wider and lower
New all-turbocharged engine lineup delivers improved efficiency and higher horsepower; including a new 2.5-liter that produces 290 horsepower and best-in-class available torque
New standard 8-speed automatic transmission
Segment exclusive available 8-speed “wet” dual-clutch transmission
New all-wheel drive option available with 1.6T engine delivers peace of mind with improved stability and capability
2.5-liter turbocharged GDI + MPI four-cylinder engine making 290 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with the new 8-speed “wet” Dual Clutch Transmission (GT) goes 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds2
