Skateboarding is one of the five sports that the International Olympic Committee has decided to include in the next Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. The other sports added that are brand new to the Olympics are karate, surfing, and sports climbing. Also to be included are baseball and softball which were a part of the Beijing 2008 games. The vote has been described as "the most comprehensive evolution of the Olympic programme in modern history." The IOC and the Tokyo Organizing Committee hope that the new inclusions will get a younger generation of athletes excited about the Olympics.
