Apple investors gave a tepid reception to the next generation of its artificial intelligence platform, which is key to the company’s bid to catch up with Silicon Valley peers.

The new Apple Intelligence system includes an overhauled Siri digital assistant, which is "more intelligent, knowledgeable and capable", and will be released as a beta test to consumers this fall.

The rollout of the technology will be slowed in certain regions, including China and the EU, due to regulatory requirements, and the new Siri will be available in English to start, before expanding to other languages.
