Do It Yourself - Candy Apple Red Flying V Project
I bought a DIY Flying V kit from The Fret Wire back in early 2016. The kit sat in the closet for months until I decided to send it off for painting by Rowyko Kustoms (Durham, NC). Sat in the queue for 6 months with Rowyko (he's very busy) and a year later she's done.
If I had to rate the DIY kit from The Fret Wire I would give it a B-. The main reason is the quality of the hardware was cheap all the way around. The pick-guard was low quality, the bridge was a throw away, the nut was cheap plastic and the supplied wiring was low grade (I used my own wiring). The body however was very good and the neck / body alignment (bolt-on) was excellent. The supplied pickups were generic humbuckers which I'm sure are functional but since I like (and trust) the Donlis pickups I went with them.
