Crazy CUSTOM CARS in America & popular car mods, styles or cultures
First of all, we’d like to get one thing straight - all cars are beautiful but some of them seem to be a bit unusual or belong to a specific car tuning culture, which is not supported worldwide.
A while ago we have released a video about the most popular auto-tuning trends in the world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WEh_eUfDI8
We have noticed that Japan and the United States of America seem to be the hottest counties for gearheads, who think that stock cars just won’t cut it for them, so they spend months if not years perfecting their favorite cars.
Tuners, custom or modified cars from America seem to be as abundant, unusual and as crazy as in Japan, so we are tried to pick out the coolest cars created by representatives of a specific automotive culture, which was started or is extremely popular in the USA.
In our video presentation we have briefly reviewed such automobile styling trends (check out credits for more info about the footage, we have used the videos on the fair use terms):
- HI-RISERS may be spotted right away thanks to their unusual elevation over the ground - traditional American-built sedans are being fitted with 22-30 inch rims with specific styling (with spinners or even see-though design). Depending on the model – 70’s Chevy Impala, 80’s Chevrolet Caprice or 90’s Pontiac – the hi-risers are being labeled as donks, boxes or bubbles.
- SLAB CULTURE is originally supported and developed by the representatives of the Houston hip-hop movement. In order to qualify for a Slab the American luxury cars - Cadillacs, Buicks or certain Oldsmobiles – are sprayed with candy paint, fitted with massive stereos, lowered suspension, lambo doors and unique 1983-1984-style wire rims – the so-called Swangas. - RAT RODS: this tuning trend started as an exaggerated form of the hot rods of 1940s, 1950s, and early-1960s. Such custom cars have the unfinished look about them and many experts claim that it is a form of a protest against the trailer hot rods, which are never driven. Rat rods, on contrary, have only bare essentials, which are being driven on daily basis.
- LOWRIDER: the lowered suspension is one of the most popular car modifications but the representatives of the lowrider culture take this mod to the other level. Lowriding is their way of life and they learned how to make their cars hop or dance.
- SLEEPERS: the sleeper automobile, which is in the international version known as the Q-car is a high-performance vehicle, which is disguised behind the traditional look of a sedan, family wagon or a true granny car.
