My Dad wanted a walking staff and picked out a cherry branch that had been sitting around for a while. It was a fairly simple woodworking project involving a spokeshave, knife and chisel work mostly. I carved his name into the staff using Nordic runes, also known as Elder Futhark. If you're new to woodwork or have never tried stripping the bark from a branch then I suggest you give this a go, it was a very satisfying build.
