Coffee Grounds, Eggshells, Banana & Avocado Peels For The Garden As Organic Fertilizer
In today's video I will show you how I use coffee grounds, eggshells, and banana and avocado peels in the garden. How I prepare them for my compost or garden and how I use them.
I save my coffee grounds and let them sit outside on the sun to dry out because they will start molding if kept in the house. Coffee grounds are beneficial for your vegetable garden because they are rich in nitrogen. I wouldn't recommend applying the coffee grounds directly to your plants unless mixed with wood chips or mulch because they will start fermenting and will heat up the soil in your garden or pot.
I do compost at home on a small scale, and while doing so, I discovered that eggshells, banana and avocado peels do not decompose very well. So, here is what I do in order to speed up the process:
I wash the eggshells, let them sit on the sun to dry out for a couple of weeks and then ground them up in my blender. Eggshells are a good source of calcium and are great for tomato and pepper plants in prevention of blossom end rot.
I do the same thing with banana peels and avocado peels. Both are a very good source of potassium for your plants.
After I ground up all the eggshells, avocado and banana peels, I mix them with the coffee grounds and add them to my compost.
In the winter, I was adding them to my raised garden bed to enrich the soil for spring time.
