Special Olympics Maryland celebrates 50 years
Wednesday is a special anniversary for Special Olympics Maryland, and although things are different this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, what the organization does for athletes hasn't changed in 50 years. The first-ever Summer Games for Special Olympics Maryland was conducted in 1970 at Towson State University. There were just 1,000 athletes competing in track and field, swimming basketball and volleyball.
