Epic Call of Eastern Male Koel in Australia, Wildlife and Nature by Venus Lopez
Springtime 2021, Australia welcomes the arrival of the beautiful Eastern Koel (Eudynamys Orientalis). Glossy blueish plumage, red eye, silvery beak.
Repeated nostalgic call, koo ooo, koooo, kooo, the bird is a cuckoo bird, formerly called as the Common Koel. The bird migrated to Australia in late September - Early October to breed.
Will lay its eggs on a host bird's nest, to depart Australia in March - April, heading back to its country of origin namely the New Guinea, Indonesia or the Philippines.
I enjoyed capturing this bird close up, capturing it singing is a joy. We would hear this bird calling any time of the day and night. Constantly call for mate.
The bird could be mistaken as a crow however this bird is smaller thank a crow. It has a glossy blueish black feathers, long tail, silvery curvy tip upper beak.
Eastern Koel is shy bird, will perch and hide in a lush foliage, hear the noise but hard to spot, was lucky to see this in the open. Eastern Koel is always attacked by other territorial birds.
It inhabits in trees in suburban areas, the city and parklands.
