Hyundai launched its brand new iMT Gearbox (CLUTCHLESS MANUAL TRANSMISSION) for its Hyundai Venue 1.0 GDI model. Kia is soon going to get this tech too in its cars.
The Hyundai Venue was a technological advancement for the Indian automobile industry when it was first launched. It ushered in the era of connected car technology, something every carmaker seems to be integrating into their cars. The Venue after being on sale for an year now, has come with a new first. A manual transmission without a clutch. Hyundai has dubbed it the iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission). Drivers will still have to manually change gears using an H-pattern gear shifter but there will be no clutch. Weird, right? This video explains how it works.
- The Venue iMT will be launched in July, 2020.
- The regular manual counterpart will continue to be on sale.
- It will be more expensive than a manual but cheaper than an automatic.
- This technology was initially supposed to be offered in the Kia Sonet. The Sonet will still get it, but after the Venue.
- The transmission will only be available with the Venue’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine for now.
- The DCT and manual variants of the Venue will continue to be on sale.
