If you have an AC motor, you might want to get different speeds out of it. Unfortunately, that's difficult or expensive to do electronically. The good news is that we can do it mechanically. It's not hard and it's really cheap. You can design and make a countershaft mechanism that will allow you to get 8 or more speeds from a single-speed motor. In this video, I'll show you all the steps. You can build along with the Real Lathe Project, or you can use this idea for your own project.
