Four Skills of Language Learning: Let's break it down!
The four skills of language learning are: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Mastering these language skills well are essential for becoming fluent in a foreign language. From a linguistic point of view, we can distinguish these 4 skills of language learning further by dividing them into receptive skills and productive skills:
Receptive are those skills which require input, such as "reading" and "listening". By practicing them we can grow our passive vocabulary. Skills that produce output, such as "writing" and "speaking", are so-called productive skills. Practicing these will help us to enrich our active vocabulary which we can use to communicate our thoughts and ideas with others.
