If you are introducing 2 cats to each other and want to make sure they get along, use the tips given here.
Step 1: Keep the cats separated initially
Keep the two cats in separate rooms of your house initially. Do not let them come into contact with each other.
Tip
Move slowly with the introduction. The more patient you are, the more likely the cats will accept each other.
Step 2: Exchange scents
Exchange cat scents. Rub a blanket or towel against one cat's fur and leave it with the second cat. Then introduce the second cat's scent to the first cat. Continue doing this for several days.
Step 3: Increase exposure
Increase the cats' exposure to each other. Let them occupy opposite sides of a closed door. Each cat will gradually become comfortable with the idea that there is a second cat in the house.
Step 4: Allow contact
Let the cats have some contact with each other. Remember, a little hissing is normal.
Tip
Distract the cats if they start growling or screaming. Separate them if the hissing and screaming resumes, then slowly reintroduce them to each other.
Step 5: Let the relationship develop
Let the relationship develop until the 2 cats are comfortable sitting in the same room together. Before you know it they will be the best of friends -- or at least good neighbors.

Cat breeds are divided into 2 groups: short-haired and long-haired.
