Using 4-H Fair Projects as part of your Homeschool Curriculum with Life Skills
This video is about how we use our 4-H fair projects as part of our homeschool curriculum to help teach life skills. We like to use 4-H clubs and activities to be part of our homeschool Co-op, even though it is not actually a co-op. 4-H gives my children plenty of opportunities to explore their interest in to learn more, while giving them the skills for citizenship responsibilities leadership and to be community-minded. My favorite part about 4-H is that it gives the opportunity for my homeschool children to better build their scholarship resume. 4-H has been a crucial part of our homeschool and it made ways are Core curriculum. 4-H has many different parts and one of them is the fair projects. The fair projects are a great way to teach responsibility, perseverance, sportsmanship, project management, financial responsibility, marketing, and compassion.
This lamb project that we did for our local fair through our 4-H club was our first fair project with animals. we started this project very ignorant of the process. The lamb project gave us 4 months of caring and training and developing this these animals. but what we learned at the fair was far more than what we learned preparing for the fair. we learned a lot of what not to do for next year. most of all that I like about doing these fair projects for my children as part of their homeschool curriculum is that it holds my children to be accountable to somebody other than me.
by doing an animal project for the fair, it gives my children an opportunity to participate in something much bigger than our home. The fair projects also provide a sense of purpose to the assignments that are given. a lot of times in our homeschool curriculum we give assignments for the purpose of learning but there's no purpose beyond that. As a homeschool family I enjoy the fact that the assignments give the purpose in our graded and evaluated in our sharpening my children to do a better job. the life skills that they get are often not learned until the project is over, so there are times that the learning takes place at the end of the project and not immediately at each assignment.
if you would like to know more about 4-H, I recommend you to do a local 4-H search through your County Extension. The 4-H ears typically from the beginning of the school year until the end with many summer activities that are planned. depending on your county, there are several opportunities that aren't just for animals. You can also go to the 4-H Mall online and find the curriculum that's available to help grow your knowledge and project-based learning.
I enjoy using 4-H as a project-based homeschool curriculum. I like that we can join clubs to help grow our knowledge and Community for these projects. but also the fact that 4-H has the resources that we can work independently on a project also. I like the fact of 42 gives the children an end-of-the-year review and judging that's provided by the county is awarded for their accomplishments, well still learning.

We are now in the tiny house of life with under 800 square feet for 8 of us. Yep a large family in a tiny house. Yes a lot of kids well 6 of them as we homeschool too. I try to use public domain books that are really vintage textbooks. It gives us the feel of Charlotte Mason and Robinson Curriculum into our own feel. I try all kinds of curriculum to find the right fit for my kids. We do our homeschooling in an exterior School Shed or school house, or really an old construction trailer that we use as a school room.
I am a little flair of fun and crazy with 6 kids. We homeschool and try to keep ourselves in budget for life. I am a crazy scrapbooker and am back to digital scrapbooking with the FORVER Panstoria Artisan Software. I am a planner addict too! I work hard to stay fit, sometimes I am winning and sometimes I am failing. I am constantly asked how I do it, so here it is. Here is a window into our life, I hope that it either makes you smile or helps you out.
