Dog food warning: Unhealthy dog food and how to avoid it
A growing number of canine scientists have come to the realisation that modern, processed dog food does not, as its manufacturers would have us believe, offer the nutrition that dogs need to lead long, happy, healthy lives. Worse still, isn’t just that kibble and canned food lack the necessary nutrition for our most faithful friends, they are actually harmful. Why? Processed dog food is, almost without exception, made using the poorest quality ingredients available. In plain English that means animal by products and derivatives left over from the production of human food. Think condemned, rotten meat, hooves, tails, testicles and even feathers. The non-meat ingredients, incidentally, consist of cheap grains and bulking agents such as peanut hulls and even sawdust. The problem with low quality ingredients is that they have almost no nutritional value. Add to this artificial colouring, binders, chemically derived flavouring and other nasties and you have a potentially toxic mix. In this video Jonathan Self, a raw dog food expert, explains why processed dog food is such bad news.
