#8 Easy Home Cooked Meals - Jamie Oliver's 5 Ingredient Chill Crab Sily Omelette [Quick Keto Meals]
I try and replicate Jamie Oliver's '5 Ingredient Chill Crab Silky Omelette' dish from his popular cookbook '5 Ingredients, Quick & Easy Food'. Its a quick and easy meal you can prepare in under 10 minutes and its also Keto friendly.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 x Medium heat red chili fresh
- 75-100 grams of crab meat, you can mix white and brown crab meat
- 1 x Fresh lemon halved
- 10 grams of cheddar cheese
- Free-range fresh eggs
PREP
- Cut the lemon in half
- Dice the chili into thin slices
- *tip wash or wipe down the cutting board after you dice the chili and avoid touching your eyes or lips
- Grate the cheddar cheese into a small bowl
COMBINE
- Using a mixing bowl, toss in all the crab meat, all the chili and season with salt and pepper
- Use some lemon juice as you please and mix everything together nicely
- Whisk the two eggs thoroughly in a bowl
FRY
- Use a generous knob of butter and coat a non-stick pan
- Here I am using a similar induction cooktop to the Duxtop 8100MC 1800W Portable Induction Cooktop Countertop
- *tip if you are using an induction cooktop make sure you use a medium-sized stainless steel or induction pan
- Pour in the whisked egg and swirl egg in the heated pan to get a nice and even omelet form
- *tip make sure you work quickly after you pour and swirl in the egg as you do not want to burn the egg and by working quickly, you will have a moist and soft/silky omelet
- Add the grated cheddar / tasty cheese
- Add the crab / chilli / lemon mixture
- Using a thin spatula quickly and carefully fold the omelet starting from the side and working your way in, start from one side and then the other side, so it meets in the middle
- Turn off the heat, the trapped heat will keep cooking the omelet so let it sit for a while
- *tip, you may notice a fair amount of moisture that has come from the crab meat and the combination of the egg and grease from the cheese. Make sure you soak this up before plating with some absorbant tissue towels
PLATE UP
- You can choose a side of your preference, here I decided to eat the omelet itself
FINAL THOUGHTS
With this being the first time I've used crab meat in any dish, I didn't really know where to source the protein from. Most seafood stores didn't have crab meat, and I would have to resort to either buying a whole fresh crab, cooking it and then taking out the meat or just buying canned crab meat. I did the latter.
This dish was speedy and straightforward, your only combining a few ingredients and eggs have historically been an easy meal to bang-up.
I'm not a huge spice eater, but I am trying to introduce it more and more into my food. This dish was spicey for me almost to the point of discomfort. But for others, it might be right down your alleyway.
I cannot stress how you should work fast and always monitor your omelets as they do cook quickly, especially when using induction cooking.
In the end, this meal is okay, it was quite watery and in the end a bit spicy for my liking.
