Liz Kennedy - "Hike Up Your Socks" Official Music Video
Hike Up Your Socks is a tribute to my late husband Michael's love for our neighborhood on Telegraph Hill in North Beach, San Francisco. He had a lovely and inclusive sense about neighborhoods. He loved belonging to the local scene. He found the old place to sharpen knives, the best place to drink coffee and where to find a fresh baked bear claw. He loved The Greco and Stella’s. He loved recognizing and being recognized. And always had something funny, truly funny, to say to people he passed on the way. We all need to be out and about in the hood, getting to know our neighbors.
Let me know what you think!

Hike Up Your Socks LYRICS
Verse 1
Take a walk
Around the block
Down the hill
And through the park
See the funny dog
With his funny man
Grab a bite
At Mario’s cigar stand
And hike up your socks
And head off
Verse 2
Forget the car
Got to walk the scene
We’re all a part
Of the same machine
You tip your hat
As I walk past
It’s a covenant
That goes way back
So hike up your socks
Chorus
And say
Hi, how do you do?
I’m doing good
Cause it’s a nice day
For walking in the neighborhood
Verse 3
If Vladimir
Or Kim Jung Un
Were pushed outside
Without their goons
And bought a scone
At Stella’s there’s no marmalade
Well perhaps for them
It’s far too late
To hike up their socks
And head off
Bridge
Tweet tweet tweet tweet
Birds in the ruby-red trees
Squawk squawk squawk
Parrots buzz the block
Verse 4
Not everyone
Has a hood
Safe and sound
Like they should
With a favorite shop
The latest catch (What do they have?)
They’ve got petrale sole
And fresh sand dabs
Where they can hike up their socks
Chorus
And say
Hi, how do you do?
I’m doing good
Cause it’s a nice day
For walking in the neighborhood
