Woodworking projects like this end table are fast, fun, and with a couple simple tricks can be very sturdy and cool looking. My goal for this build is to show 3 things: a very sturdy leg mounting system I have used for years, a simple 3 step finishing technique that offers stunning results, also share my Izzy Skirt Washers. A product I designed for mounting tops to their bases.
The leg mounting system I use for most of my woodworking projects involves a little extra mill work then a standard brace system but the super strong and doesn’t take as long as mortise and tenons and in the end the legs can be removed which comes in very handy for shipping items, storing them or just moving.
The painting techniques for this end table is a simple 3 step finish that can be mixed and watched to create some very stunning looks. I would encourage people to try different paints and stains and try different things using these steps on their woodworking projects it is possible to come up with some amazing looks. The steps are simple – one light coat of acrylic latex paint, brush and oil base stain over the top lightly till you fine a texture or look you like and when the stain has set for a while (I usually like to give it 8 hour) spray a coat of fast dry lacquer over the top then add coast lacquer as desired.
The Izzy Skirt washers I in this video are a product I wish I would have had years ago. They make mounting tops to woodworking projects like this end table super-fast and simple. The advantage they offer besides being simple to use is their ability to allow the table top move with seasonal changes, or different climates. We all know wood moves and when a top is attached firmly to a project it can actual warp the top or project if it is not allowed to expand or contract my skirt washers allow the top to move in any direction when needed yet hold it firmly to the base so it doesn’t shift in everyday use.
